Week 2 : 21 October to 25 October
During this week, I had the opportunity to observe an NCC meeting, which gave me insight into how discipline, leadership, unity, and a sense of responsibility are cultivated among students through structured activities and commands. The dedication and enthusiasm of the cadets reflected the importance of co-curricular programs in shaping confident and responsible citizens. In addition, I observed the exhibition of trophies displayed for the winning items in Kalolsavam, which highlighted the school’s commitment to promoting cultural talents and creative expression among students. The pride and motivation visible among students and teachers reinforced the value of recognizing achievements. Overall, this week enhanced my understanding of the role of co-curricular activities in education and enriched my teaching practice experience by connecting academic learning with character and personality development.
Alongside academic duties, preparations for the upcoming Kalolsavam brought a vibrant energy to the school. Practice sessions for dance, music, and other cultural events were in full swing, and assisting teachers in rehearsal arrangements and participant management offered a valuable learning experience. The week provided meaningful insights into balancing academic responsibility with extracurricular coordination, reinforcing the importance of holistic education that nurtures both learning and creativity.
The second week of teaching practice began right after the Diwali holidays, with students and teachers returning to school in a festive and enthusiastic mood. During this week, practice was both engaging and enriching, as it involved a variety of academic and non-academic responsibilities. Along with handling regular class periods and taking substitution periods, I implemented an innovative lesson plan on the Social Reform Movement by using a parody song set to the familiar tune of the Malayalam film song Minnalvala. This creative approach immediately captured students’ attention, increased their interest, and encouraged active participation, making the learning experience enjoyable and memorable. The reflection on this lesson helped me realize the effectiveness of integrating music and cultural familiarity into teaching, as it improved student engagement and concept retention.Several substitution classes were managed effectively, providing additional opportunities to engage with students beyond the assigned subjects. Regular classroom sessions continued smoothly, focusing on interaction and maintaining discipline. Meal duty was fulfilled responsibly during lunch intervals, ensuring proper supervision and promoting good table manners among students. Discipline duty during breaks and dispersal time helped reinforce order and respect within the school environment.
